By now we've learned that Aaahnold will veto the new gay marriage law in California. With his Kennedy wife and loads of Hollywood friends, could he really be opposed to equal rights for gay people? I doubt it.
In contrast, let me offer my adopted home town to illustrate an inclusive community, where the rights of everyone are proclaimed, protected and heralded. We have a large gay minority and a straight majority that boasts "Straight but Not Narrow" bumper stickers and signs such as the pink ones you see in front of a neighbor's house. They attest to such ideals as, "Separate but Equal is Still Wrong" and "Marriage is a Human Right." The thoroughly hetero couple who live there had the signs up long before the House and Garden Tour visited their home last spring and the signs have remained because, as explained to me, "We're proud of them." Drivers slow down to look at this house, recently designed and built by the architect-owner, and I admire it and the lovely pink signs from the chairs on my front porch.
Just one of the reasons I love Takoma Park.

Canadians are much more liberal in their views of gay marriage. I think our thoughts and attitudes on alot of subjects makes us more like Europeans that Americans.
